The twins had their 18 month check up (a month late) yesterday. Cormac, is now 21 lbs. 12 oz. and measures 32 inches tall. Cormac is tiny, his weight is only in the 5th percentile and his height is in around the 25th. We've actually been asked to work on "beefing" him up a bit. Declan is 26 lbs. 2 oz. and stands at 34 inches tall. Declan is average to big, his weight puts him in the 50th percentile and his height is in the 90% range. Both boys received three immunizations and a clean bill of health.
After the twins' appointments, we headed to Stride Rite for new sneakers. Clearly our feet have grown too! Cormac now wears a size 7 and Declan is a size 8. The twins then took a dash around the mall in their new speedy shoes and checked out the kiddie train. They decided they were still too tiny to ride it and would rather just watch others ride.
Next, the twins threw their very first pennies in the mall water fountain and then paused to stare down the giant decorated cookies at a Mrs. Field's cookie stand. The twins were a touch sad to hear Mrs. Field's agrees with mommy that you should only have cookies after lunch. They made mommy feel horribly mean as she nearly dragged them away. We'll come back later.
Unfortunately, a severe case of the crankies (likely related to the immunizations) set in right after our little lunch. It was a trip home to nap that followed lunch not a trip back to get a cookie as originally planned.
The twins wavered back and forth on the way home between being dazzled by their new shoes and being a sleep.
I wavered myself.
Perhaps their wish was that a giant cookie appear? Or that today was a cookie before lunch kind of day? Had I squished their dreams? Had I broken their hearts? Why hadn't I just bought the cookies while I was standing there and saved them for later? Do they even remember the stupid cookies at all? Am I a mean mom? Those cookies sure looked good, didn't they?
After 5 kids, it never gets easier to be the mom that says "no cookies before lunch" and truly stick to it.
